JAMMU, Sept 18: Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu and many other traders’ bodies have resolved to support ‘Bharat Bandh’ call on September 20 in protest against the UPA Government’s decision of allowing foreign direct investment in retail business sector.
In a meeting of the Chamber held here today under the chairmanship of senior vice president, Sham Lal Langar to discuss the issue of FDI in retail and its impact on the medium and small traders, the members took the decision to oppose the decision and lodge protest. The CCI secretary general, Arun Gupta said no doubt FDI in retail may provide some relief to the consumers, but it will directly or indirectly effect millions of traders in the country. Many people will be rendered jobless, he added.
The CCI described it as anti-people decision and said that many people of the country especially small and medium traders will be badly hit. It was resolved in the meeting to lodge strong protest against the Government of India and support Bharat Bandh call given by Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).
Meanwhile several traders bodies of main markets in Jammu also supported the bandh call and decided to observe bandh on Sept 20.
