Horrendous crime

No words are strong enough to condemn and disparage the shameful act of SHO Khour, SI Mohammad Iqbal Chagatta. When the custodians of law and order and caretakers of the people especially the weaker sections indulge in breaking the law blatantly and indulging in an act of shameful lust, it shows that rot is creeping into the entire structure raised to enforce law and order in the State. The rape of a young girl who had been taken into police custody is the most horrendous crime a police man or officer can commit. It shakes the faith of ordinary people in the police organization.
The law has come into action and whatever needed to be done under rules has been done. The SHO is not only suspended but also arrested because there is a written complaint by the victim and higher authorities of police department have taken cognizance of the case.  One question arises. When a woman was ordered to be taken into police custody, why was not she lodged in special women cell and instead was placed in the police station at Khour? Maybe the SHO had ill intentions from the very beginning. We are also told about the possible involvement of a female assistant at the said police station. This makes the matters more complicated. Therefore a thorough investigation should be ordered in the entire case. The people have demonstrated against the SHO and they are very right in demanding adequate punishment to the culprits. Now the entire focus is on whether punishment under law will be given to the SHO or whether the matter will be dragged on unnoticed for some time and then hushed up. It is against this tendency that the locals have protested. We hope the Government realizes the sensitivity of the matter and press the law of the land into service to give a deterring punishment to the culprits.
