JAMMU, May 10: In continuation to de-silting drive of various nallahs/deep drains within the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation, today the de-silting drive was started in Shakti Nagar Nallah on the directions of Commissioner JMC, Mandeep Kaur.
The men and machinery were deployed in Shakti Nagar Nallah on de-silting operation. This special drive will continue for another 15 days; seven days for de-silting of up-stream and seven days for de-silting of down stream of Shakti Nagar Nallah.
During de-silting of this Nallah, a large number of people gathered at the spot and appreciated the efforts taken by Jammu Municipal Corporation for mitigating their sufferings which they have been facing since long due to overflowing of this Nallah. On both sides of the nallah there are building structures which are creating hurdles in de-silting of the said nallah. A water channel has been developed by JMC for de-silting of portion of the nallah.
Last year due to overflowing of Shakti Nagar Nallah there was loss to the property of the adjoining houses, as water had entered into the houses adjoining to the Nallah. Learning from the past experience this year, JMC has taken timely action to de-silt this Nallah well before the onset of monsoon season.
Recently, JMC has started the de-silting operation of 14 big nallahs and number of tributaries so that JMC can finish the task of de-silting of various nallahs well before the onset of monsoon season. The whole operation is led by the Talat Mehmood Khan, Chief Transport Officer, JMC alongwith his team.
