JAMMU, Apr 14: Like other parts of the country, Fire Service Day was observed by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, J&K, at all its district headquarters, throughout the State.
The main function was held at Fire and Emergency Services, Headquarters Gandhi Nagar, where Director General Fire and Emergency Services J&K, Er RS Sodhi, was the chief guest. Wreaths were laid on the memorial in memory of the gallant firemen who laid their lives for the noble cause.
While speaking on the occasion, Er Sodhi emphasized the importance of Fire Service Day and Fire Service Week commencing from today to April 20. He stressed upon the officers and jawans of the department to play their role in Nation’s development by launching massive awareness programmes in schools, colleges and industries regarding fire safety measure to minimize the loss due to fire.
RT Dubey, Joint Director Fire and Emergency Services Jammu Range, AK Wangoo, Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Command Jammu, Dr Rajnesh Anand, Medical Officer Fire and Emergency Services, Mohammad Maqbool Thoker, Administrative Officer Fire and Emergency Services and Tasawuf Amin, Accounts Officer also laid wreath on the memorial.
To commemorate the brave firemen who lost their lives during the dock explosion at Mumbai on April 14, Fire and Emergency Service Department, Ramban launched a week-long fire awareness programme on Fire Services Day.
The programme is being organized under the supervision of Deputy Director Command Doda-Kishtwar, Mohammad Qasim Bajran with the help of officials of fire services and local people.
Speaking on the occasion, Bajran threw light on three main objectives of fire services like saving life, saving national and public property and salvage and preservation. He further added that necessary precautions must be taken while handling electric and other appliances which may resort to fire incidents.
A commemoration parade was organized at Fire and Emergency Services, District Headquarters Udhampur, where homage was paid to those brave firemen, who have laid their lives to safeguard the life of others during rescue and fire fighting operations. Wreaths were laid at the martyrs memorial by PK Bhat, Assistant Director, Fire and Emergency Services Command Udhampur-Reasi and other officers and personnel of Fire and Emergency Station Udhampur.
A fire tender fixed with posters and banners was deputed through the Udhampur, Reasi, Katra, Chenani and Ramnagar town and general public were made regarding how to meet the fire before the arrival of the nearest Fire and Emergency Station.
Speaking on the occasion, PK Bhat stressed that the week long awareness programme will continue in order to create awareness among the people to meet the fire crisis in case of any exigency.
Similar parades and wreath laying ceremonies were also organized in Fire and Emergency Station Reasi, Katra, Chenani, Bhawan, Adhkuwari and Ramnagar.
Floral and rich tributes were paid to martyrs at Pulwama Fire Services headquarters. The wreaths were laid on memorial by AD Command Pulwama Chander Peshin.
