Srinagar, Apr 11: Stone-throwing clashes between youths and security forces erupted in Lelhar and Kakapora areas of Pulwama district during a search operation today.
Sources said a search and cordon operation was launched by security forces following an input about the presence of Lashkar-e-Toiba militants at Lelhar.
“As the search operation was underway, local youths pelted stones on security forces and created hurdles in the operation. The police retaliated by using mild force against the stone-throwers,” the sources added.
Following the clashes, the cordon and search operation was called off by forces as no militant was found hiding in the area. Later, the clashes also erupted at Kakapora after youth pelted stones on forces coming from Lelhar.
The clashes continued till late evening and many protesters sustained injuries. Some of the injured persons were referred to hospital for first aid treatment. There was however no critical injuries to anyone.
