RAJOURI, Apr 8: On the second day of their ‘Rajouri Day’ week, the activists of Sangarsh observed one day self purification fast with the message of restoration of peace, tolerance and brotherhood in the society.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Suresh Kumar, general secretary of Sangarsh, opined that through this fast it is our homage to those brave soldiers and civilians who lost their lives for safeguarding the sovereignty and communal brotherhood of this Peer Panjal region and finally succeeded in making this part as the part of Indian nation.
Stressing the relevance and value of fasts in Indian tradition and way of life, Dr Suresh said that in almost all the world religions e.g. Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Jainism etc., fasting has been given much importance for purifying the self but here today’s fast is for prevailing peace, prosperity and brotherhood among all the communities.
Advocate Israr Mirza, district secretary of Rajouri unit and Vishal Pahari, member, advisory committee of Sangarsh, also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier paying floral tributes to the Martyrs at Martyrs Point, Gujjar Mandi, Rajouri, the MoS and Vice Chairman of Pahari Speaking Advisory Board for the Development of Pahari Speaking People, Kuldeep Raj Gupta, recalled the barbaric killings and atrocities by the Pakistan sponsored tribal forces. He also threw light on the religious and communal brotherhood which was maintained by the people of that time and irrespective of any caste, colour, creed and religion they stood up against those forces.
In the later part of the evening, Additional District Development Commissioner, Rajouri, Avtar Singh Chib, offered juice and terminated the one day self purification fast with his address.
Prominent among others who observed fast include Vikrant Sharma, Advocate Showkat Ali, Vishal Pahari, Kanav Badyal, Shahbaz Khan, Raj Kumar, Mohd Farooq, Anil Sharma, Rohit Gupta, Shiv Dutta, Joginder Paul Gupta, Mohd Rayaz, Mohd Aslam, Shafait, Ilyas Choudhary, Numan Mirza and Zubair Gorsi.
