JAMMU, Feb 18: The 10th annual edition of SaMaPa Aalap Festival on Day 3 featured mesmerizing recital by the legendary Mohan Veena exponent, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt from Jaipur who regaled the audiences with his performances at KC Public School.
The performance was witnessed by over 1000 students and a large number of parents and general public. Apart from the host school, a large number of students from various others institutes like KC International, KC Gurukul and Heritage School also came to attend the concert in large numbers.
Creator of the Mohan Veena and the winner of several national and international awards like the Grammy Award, Padmashri and Tansen Samman amongst others, Pt Bhatt, a disciple of the legendary Pt Ravi Shankar, has travelled across the globe in around 80 countries mesmerizing the world with his pristine, delicate yet fiery music.
With blinding speed and faultless legato, he captivated the audience of Jammu and Samba border. He was ably accompanied on Tabla by Pranshu Chaturlal and on Pakhawaj by Rishi Shankar Upadhyay, both brilliant young stars of Indian music.
Pt Bhatt played Raga Nat Bhairav starting with Aalap and Jod followed by compositions in Vilambit and Drutlaya Teentaal. The fascinating combinations of the Veena with Tabla and Pakhawaj captivated the audience during the extraordinary 1½ hour recital.
Earlier the function started with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony by the artists, Aparna Sopori, Principal of the school, Amarendra Mishra, Academic Director, Dr RD Thakur and Santoor Maestro & Music Composer, Abhay Rustum Sopori.
In another concert held on the cool night of February 17 at the Police Technical Training Institute (PTTI), Vijaypur, Samba, concerts by Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Ragini Rainu’s Sufi vocal enchanted the audience of more than 700 people.
Navin Agarwal, ADGP, J&K was the chief guest on the occasion who along with the Principal of the PTTI, SSP Ranjit Kanwar, presented mementos and bouquets to the performing musicians and the guests.
The festival on 19th February will feature vocal recitals by two prominent young generation maestros. 1st concert will be held at GCW, Parade at 10:30 am featuring Srinivas Joshi, son of Bharat Ratan, late Pt Bhimsen Joshi. The 2nd concert will feature Meeta Pandit, daughter of legendary vocalist, Pt LK Pandit, at MAM College at 1:00 pm.
