Srinagar, Feb 3: Police today said that they busted an Over Ground Workers module of Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit in North Kashmir’s Handwara where they were planning attacks on security forces and political workers.
Superintendent of Police Handwara, Ghulam Jeelani Wani, told reporters that the module was providing logistic support to the top commander of JeM in the area. He said that they were planning attacks on security installations, police and political workers of different political parties in the area.
The SP said that police arrested three of JeM Over Ground Workers. He identified them as Ghulam Nabi Lone alias Prince son of Abdul Rehman resident of Udipora Langate, Umar Mushtaq Mir son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Yaroo Langate and Ishfaq Ahmad Parray son of Ghulam Ahmad Parray resident of Mandigam.
Wani said that the OGWs network was operating in Handwara since April 2015 and were hell bent upon carrying out subversive activities. “They were involved in various subversive activities and hell-bent to target political workers, security installations and police establishments”, he said.
The SP said that these men were providing logistic support to top JeM commander in the area. “These persons were providing logistic support to the JeM militants and were close associates of a top commander of JeM outfit”, he said.
The Police officer said that they were planning something big in the area and described it as a major success in the area against JeM. “They were planning to do something big in Handwara”, he added.
The SP said that with the busting of this OGWs module a big threat to the political workers and peace loving people was averted in Handwara.
This is the second module that was busted in North Kashmir for last few weeks. Last month a major Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) module was busted in Sopore area. They were trying to revive the HuM in North Kashmir and were involved in various militancy related incidents in North Kashmir and Srinagar.
