Protest at SDH Akhnoor over death of woman

JAMMU, Jan 6: A protest was held today in Sub-District Hospital, Akhnoor following the death of a woman allegedly due to the negligence of the doctors.
According to the reports, a lady identified as Kamlesh Devi (32) wife of Tilak Raj, a resident of Gurha Brahmana (Akhnoor), who gave birth to a baby in the intervening night of January 5 and 6 in SDH Akhnoor after an operation, died this evening triggering protest by his family members who alleged that the woman died due to negligence of doctors.
The protest continued about one hour during which the protesters turned violent and broke glasses of window panes of doctors’ duty room, adjacent to labour room.
On getting information a police team from police station Akhnoor reached the spot but by then the protesting family members had left the place with the body of the deceased lady. According to a police spokesperson, they have not received any formal complaint from the family members of the deceased lady.
When contacted, BMO, SDH Akhnoor, Dr Vinod Sharma, alleged that the woman perhaps died of heart attack. Elaborating more, he said that the operation was conducted on the lady around midnight and both woman and her new born were doing quite well till evening, so there can be no negligence on the part of the concerned doctor.
“However, the issue will be looked into seriously and a committee will be constituted to probe the whole matter and to ascertain the reasons behind her death”, he added.
