JAMMU, Dec 16: 2nd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu, M K Sharma today awarded life-imprisonment to Ranjit Singh alias Bittu, who murdered his brother over land dispute in Jindrah area on January 20, 2010.
After hearing APP KA Qazi appearing for the State, 2nd Additional Sessions Judge observed, “protection of society and stamping out criminal proclivity must be the object of law which must be achieved by imposing appropriate sentence”.
Accordingly, the court awarded rigorous imprisonment for life and fine of Rs 5,000 for the commission of offence under Section 302 RPC and imprisonment for one year and fine of Rs 1000 for the commission of offence under 25 Arms Act.
