Old woman killed due to negligence of ERA

JAMMU, Dec 8: An old woman was killed today at Mandlik Nagar in Paloura area of city outskirts after she fell into a pit dug on the road by labourers engaged in works undertaken by ERA.
The deceased has been identified as Shakuntla Devi (75) wife of Jagdev Singh, a resident of House No 6, Mandlik Nagar, Paloura, Jammu.
According to the reports, the woman was going to her house on foot, when she got slipped and fell into a large and open pit dug by ERA workers. In the mishap, the woman received injuries on her head. In unconscious, the blood ridden woman was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where doctors declared her as brought dead.
After conducting medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites. A case in this connection has been registered at police Station Janipur and proceedings started under 174 CrPC.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased woman alleged that she died due to negligence of ERA workers, who have dug large pits on the roads of the area and left them open that too without barricading. They demanded stern action against the concerned ERA contractors.
