JAMMU, Dec 8: Voicing concern over lackadaisical approach of Coalition Govt on reservation in promotion row and for not clearing its stand on this issue even after two months of Division Bench (HC) verdict, the employees, non-employees and members of socio-religious groups of these classes met here today under the aegis of Jammu Kashmir Reserve Categories Employees Association (JKRCEA) and urged upon the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohd Sayeed to clear stand of his Govt whether his Govt is in favour of protecting the Reservation Act 2004 and Reservation Rules 2005.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Sanjay Bhasin, Chief of JKRCEA said claimed that the SCs/STs/OBCs are not adequately represented thus should not be given a raw deal. He further said that these reserved communities expect that the present Govt will not overlook this serious issue of reservation in promotion as this has created sense of insecurity among the reserved communities. He said the Govt must bring an appropriate ordinance or challenge the verdict in the apex court.
Piran Ditta, president Guru Ravi Dass Sabha said that with the formation of new Coalition Government, the reserved classes expected due benefit of the reservation but if the current ruling on reservation is implemented, the Government would deprive the reserved communities of their rights. “If the Government will not take this grave issue very seriously, these communities would be forced but to come on roads,” he added.
Pertinently, the J&K High Court, in its judgment on October 9, 2015, struck down some sections of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act. The court struck down Section 6 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, and Rules 9, 10 and 34 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Rules 2005.
Sham Lal Basson, president Dalit Chetna Manch and Bodh Raj Bhagat, president Bhagat Maha Sabha, Roshan Din Choudhary, Raj Kumar, Joginder Paul and MS Azad also spoke on the occasion.
