RAJOURI, Dec 5: The people from one community today held protest dharna outside Police Station Kalakote demanding release of two youth arrested in connection with the setting on fire two Tavera vehicles smuggling bovine animals to Kashmir via Mughal road.
Reports said that people from one community from Saisui and adjoining areas today moved to the Kalakote Police Station and held protest dharna demanding release of Parminder Singh and Raghubir Singh, allegedly picked up by police past night. The were shouting slogans against police for failure to prevent bovines smuggling to Kashmir via Rajouri and Mughal Road. They alleged that police has been exposed and now it has started harassing members of one community. Later, Tehsildar and DySP reached there and pacified the agitating people.
It is pertinent to mention here that people spotted five bovine animals being smuggled in two Tavera vehicles and they chased and intercepted both of them three days back. Later, they rescued the cattle and set on fire the vehicles. Six smugglers were nabbed and severely thrashed on the road and later handed over to police.
