JAMMU, Nov 25: Like the other parts of the country, the 547th Parkash Parab of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji, the founder of Sikhism was celebrated across the Jammu region with religious fervour and gaiety today.
In this connection a grand function was held at Gurdwara Yadgaar, Guru Nanak Sahib Ji, Chand Nagar where thousands of devout Sikhs participated in the celebrations.
The function was organize by District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC), Jammu. Devotees paid their obeisance to Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj and Guru Granth Sahib. Raagi Jattha of Bhai Harjit Singh Ji of Jwabi Kalan Ludhiana and many other local Raagi Jatthas recited the Gurbani on the occasion. Prominent international preacher Bhai Nachater Singh of Sikh Missionary Gurmat Gyan College and Harsimran Singh a local young preacher from Jammu threw light on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji.
During the function resolutions concerning the religious & political aspirations and problems being faced by the Sikh Community in the State were adopted.
The resolutions were presented by Jathedar Mohinder Singh Ji Member DGPC Jammu. S. Tarlochan Singh Wazir president J&K State Gurudwara Parbandhak Board while addressing the gathering elaborated in detail over these resolutions and assured the gathering that the Present DGPC Jammu and J&K State Gurudwara Parbandhak Board with cooperation of Sikh Sangat will continue its efforts for the redressal of burning issues of the Sikh Community and implementation of DGPC election manifesto. The stage was conducted by S. Harjinder Singh general secretary DGPC Jammu.
The function was also attended by MLA Jammu East Rajesh Gupta.
The resolution strongly condemned the incidents of continuous desecration of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in Punjab and said entire Sikh Community and humanity was badly hurt by such sacrilegious acts.
Through another resolution the Sangat demanded that the financial package announced by Government of India for refugees of the State should be disbursed as per recommendation of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in letter and spirit and Government of India must come up with some educational and rehabilitation schemes for the children of refugees.
Through third resolution it demanded that in the areas dominated by Punjabi speaking People in J & K, Government should provide Punjabi teachers, so that Punjabi Language can be promoted from the school level.
Through another resolution the Sangat demanded one Cabinet Minister and one State Minister in State Council of Ministers and at least two nomination seats for Sikh MLA’s should be reserved as per recommendations of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of Government of India and also special segments of Assembly should be carved for Sikh population in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Sikh community demanded that Kunjwani Chowk be declared as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk as promised by administration and politicians from time to time.
It also demanded that the Minority Sikh Community in Jammu and Kashmir should be granted minority status in J&K as per the Minority Commission Act 2C of 1992 and as promised by PDP in its Election Manifesto.
The gathering through another resolution demanded impartial probe into the many carnages of Sikh community members including 1984 and 1989 anti Sikh riots in Jammu and killing of our innocent Sikh youths from time to time, Chittisinghpura carnage of 2000 in Kashmir and implementation of the Ansari Commission report of 1989 rights.
Later S. Jagjit Singh president DGPC Jammu proposed the vote of thanks.
Guru Ka Langar was also served to devotees.
The 547th Parkash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj was celebrated at Gurdwara Digiana Ashram Jammu with religious fervour and zeal under the supervision of Mahant Manjit Singh Ji of Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib, Poonch. A large number of devotees participated in the celebrations including leaders of various Sikh organizations like Bhai Kanaya Nishkam Seva Society, AISSF, Sikh United Front, Sikh Welfare Society, Sikh Noujwan Sabha, Ragis and religious preachers.
While addressing the Sikh Sangat, S Sudershan Singh Wazir ex-president SGPB and president Sikh United Front, J&K said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji spread the message of love unity, equality and brotherhood.
The resolutions were also passed by the Sangat on the occasion for constituting a Minority Commission in the State, compensation of Rs 30 lakh to PoJK refugees of 1947 as recommended by State Cabinet. The resolution rejected the recent package for refugees.
It demanded induction of a member of the community in the State Cabinet, introduction of Punjabi language into the schools of the State and creation of posts of Punjabi lecturers and teachers.
Mahant Manjit Singh Ji in his address stressed upon the Sikh community to follow the path shown by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in every field of life for becoming a true and pure Sikh to serve the poor and needy people of the society and work for the betterment of the country.
The other Sikh religious leaders who spoke included S Mohinder Singh, S Paramjit Singh, S Kulwant Singh, S Rajinder Singh, S Hardev Singh, S Lakhbir Singh Bawa, Tej Pal Singh, Charanvir Singh Lord and many others.
The Gurupurab was also celebrated by Canal Road Walkers Welfare Association at Canal Road Walkers track with religious fervour and gaiety. People from all walks of life participated in the function. Prof M S Nargal, president of the Association said the love and respect for each others religion was the message of Guru Nanak.
Reports of Gurupurab Celebration have come from Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri , Reasi and other districts of Jammu region also.
