ANANTNAG, Nov 1: While targeting BJP and PDP for dividing people on communal and regional lines, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir today urged upon all the secular forces in the State and the country to defeat the designs of anti- peace forces vitiating atmosphere of communal harmony for their vested.
Addressing large gathering of the party workers before protest march against ruling alliance here today, PCC president expressed concern over the continuous efforts by anti- peace forces to vitiate atmosphere of amity and harming age old tradition of brotherhood in the State. He accused Coalition Govt of PDP- BJP for bringing the State at the verge of disintegration due to their wrong and anti- people policies.
Blaming `coalition’ for failing to contain forces harming secular fabric in the State, PCC chief castigated BJP for indulging in politics of exploitation for the sake of getting benefitted politically. Its ally PDP has let down the people in all respects and has betrayed people for the sake of coming into power in the State, he added.
Mr Mir further said that from the day BJP assumed power at the Centre and PDP- BJP Coalition in the State, people of the country and State started feeling insecure and helpless, for the fact, both the parties have not been able to give good governance as was claimed by them and have miserably failed to ensure safety of common people.
Describing Congress as the only unifying force in the country and State, PCC chief said that Congress Party represents aspirations of the people and has always worked as a bridge between the communities. He assured the people that Congress won’t allow any force or factor to exploit people and is capable of giving befitting reply to them.
Terming Congress party as an instrument of service to the people, PCC president said that Congress has always strengthened people and would continue do so. Mir urged all secular forces to get united and defeat the forces, factors harming communal harmony in the country.
Former PCC president Peerzada Mohd Syed said that Congress which is in the service of people since 130 years has taken care of the aspirations of people of every community and never compromised on its committed position of maintaining communal harmony and integrity of the nation. Cautioning the people about the negative politics of BJP and PDP in the State, he appealed them to remain vigilant and defeat BJP -PDP attempts to create regional imbalance to serve their vested interests.
On this occasion, Congress leaders and workers led by G A Mir took out a rally in Anantnag town, protesting against forces vitiating atmosphere of peace and harming communal harmony in the State, but the protest march was foiled by police near Khanabal Chowk.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani, MLA Mohd Amin Bhat, senior leaders Hilal Ahmad Shah, Surinder Singh Channi, Anayatullah Rather, Mohd Abdullah Nadaf, Shaheena Nadaf and Mohd Iqbal Mir.
