SAMBA, Oct 16: Taking serious view of the constant rise in road accidents, particularly on the highway, District Administration Samba has started a district wise drive on road safety.
Under this awareness programmes will be held in all schools, both private and Government in which resource persons from Transport Department and from the traffic wing of the Police Department will be explaining various aspects of road safety including rules, signals, safety measures through discourses, movies and interactive sessions.
The first event in the series was held for students of Adarsh Vidyapeeth, Samba and another at K.P. Higher Secondary School, Samba.
Speaking on the occasion, District Magistrate, Samba, Sheetal Nanda said that there is great need to inculcate discipline and self-control amongst the young generation who are the more vulnerable population. She desired that road safety awareness should percolate to one and all to ensure prevention rather than punitive action after violations take place.
The ARTO, Samba informed that similar such programmes will be organised every week and cover all Government employees also. Drives for proper parking, wearing helmets and seatbelts will also be undertaken in the district with the help of school children.
