KATHUA, Oct 12: J&K Handicapped Welfare Forum (JKHWF) today submitted a memorandum of demands to Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed for early redressal of the long pending demands of the handicapped persons.
The memorandum was submitted by a deputation of the Forum led by its chairman, Charan Dass, through Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Hiranagar.
The demands put forth in the memorandum were clearing all pending cases of disabled persons, enhancement of monthly pension from Rs 400 to Rs 8000 per month for persons with 40% and above disability, reservation according to population (i.e. 10%).
The memorandum also highlighted the reservation in professional colleges for handicapped, reservation in promotion in all categories of Government jobs meant for disabled persons, grant of political reservation, filling up of backlog posts/vacancies since 1998 to 2015, establishment of State Commission, special safe guard for the handicapped employees, reservation of seats in public transport vehicles, special allowance for children and women with disabilities, and education allowance for disabled children of Government employees.
The Forum also demanded that the World Disabled Day be declared as holiday for all disabled persons who are in Government services.
The other demands of the handicapped persons highlighted in the memorandum include opening of special Model Schools designed for handicapped persons with special trained staff, provision of scooter in place of Tri-cycle, opening of separate counters for persons with disability in every Government and semi-Government office and free medical treatment in Government as well as private hospitals.
