SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Department of Tourism participated in the annual Cinema Tourism Summit held at Mumbai. The event brought together a conclave of leaders in the business of cinema and tourism.
The summit was attended by noted Film Director of Sholay fame, Ramesh Sippy, Vice-President, Yash Raj Films, Ashish Singh, Rajan Kapoor from Kabir Khan Films, and Guneet Monga Producer, Gangs of Wasseypur, and other film and television personalities attended the presentation.
They shared their positive experiences of filming in Kashmir and how the State can match incentives provided by the Governments of UK, Canada and North America.
Promotional clips of films shot in Kashmir were played on the occasion.
Rakesh Kumar, CEO, Tourism Development Authority Patnitop described Kashmir as a film destination and spoke about a single window clearance system established by J&K Government to make it easy and feasible for film makers to shoot in Kashmir.
It is pertinent to mention here that many reputed names such as Yash Raj, Karan Johar, Ayan Mukherjee, Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Vishal Bharadwaj, Ram Gopal Verma have shot their films in the valley, most of which have become blockbusters.
The participation in the Cinema Summit is in continuation to the efforts of Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to invite bollywood to shoot again in Kashmir. In this connection, the Chief Minister visited Mumbai and interacted with the leading bollywood actors and encouraged them to start shooting in the Kashmir instead of Europe.
The Department has introduced Single Window Clearance, first time in the State, in which film units desirous to shoot in Kashmir would get permission in the shortest period.
During the Cinema Tourism Summit, Hyder- shot entirely in Kashmir- got the award for Best Indian Destination Film.
