DB directs Planning Secy to release funds within 2 weeks

JAMMU, Oct 1: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking establishment of eye-banks, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Hasnain Massodi and Justice BS Walia today directed the Commissioner/ Secretary Planning and Development Department to release funds within two weeks or appear in person.
When the PIL came up for hearing, counsel for the respondents submitted that two buildings, one at Government Medical College, Jammu and another at Government Medical College, Srinagar have been identified to house the eye banks and necessary machinery would be installed only after Planning and Development Department releases Rs 3 crore.
Upon this, Division Bench directed Commissioner Secretary to Government, Planning and Development Department to expedite the matter and ensure that funds required by the respondents are sanctioned and released within two weeks.
“The compliance be reported by the next date of hearing and in default the Commissioner Secretary, Planning and Development Department shall appear in person to explain the delay and disobedience of the directions of this court”, DB directed.
