SRINAGAR, Sept 19: Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar said Jammu and Kashmir Police has to prove it as a solace for helpless. He said the organization has a great responsibility to eradicate the menace of drug addiction from the society.
Mr. Rajendra was speaking during his visit to the Drug De-addiction cum Counseling Centre here today. He said drug abuse affects the capability and energy in youth and is a menace that is required to be uprooted from the society. He added that it is the responsibility of all in a society to work together and help eradicate the growing menace, which has risen to alarming levels in the modern society.
“We would have to address all reasons that lead youth indulge in drugs, and will have to help in de-addicting drug users. Drug abuse makes a person dependant, incapable and finally costs him his life”, said Mr. Rajendra.
DGP said that, realising its social responsibility JKP has taken various initiatives to help physical and mental development of youth of the State. Besides performing professional duties the police have been working in the direction of helping social cause of drug de-addiction and centres for the purpose have been made operational in twin capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu.
He said hundreds of youth have been treated in these centres by the doctors, thus enabling them to give up dreadful consumption and to lead a normal life. The centres are fully equipped with proper infrastructure to treat drug abuse patients with all technical support being provided by Police Hospital Srinagar and Jammu. Medical, and para-medical staff including psychiatrists are available at these centres for treatment and counseling, he added.
During his visit, DGP also spent some time with patients, interacted with them and enquired about the available facilities. He discussed various issues with the management and team of doctors to help strengthen infrastructure, medical equipment and other facilities. He was informed about the functioning of the Centre by IGP Kashmir Zone, SJM Gillani and SP, Manoj Koul.
Dr. Muzaffar Ahmed Khan, Incharge of the Centre briefed the DGP about available facilities and treatment given to the patients.
