KISHTWAR, Sept 18: Chatroo police rescued 23 bovine animals and arrested seven smugglers from Dillar bridge in Passerkoot area, here.
As per police sources, police team from Chatroo police station laid a naka at Dillar bridge in Passerkoot area and intercepted seven persons carrying bovines.
During questioning, the accused failed to give satisfactory reply and police arrested all of them.
The accused have been identified as Ghulam Rasool, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Gohan Chak Vailoo Anantnag, Ishtiyaq Ahmad, son of Mohammad Rafiq of Pahalgam Sigdi, Sajad Hussain, son of Mohammad Akbar of Dillar Chatroo, Mohammad Iqbal, son of Habibullah of Rahal Inderwal, Mushtaq Ahmad, son of Ahad Lone of Singhpora, Ashiq Hussain, son of Abdul Aziz of Dillar Chatroo and Manzoor Ahmad, son of Ghulam Mohi Din of Dillar Chatroo.
During preliminary investigations, it came to fore that main accused namely Ghulam Rasool visited Chatroo and other adjoining areas and purchased bovines. He hired locals to help him secretly cross the jurisdiction towards Kashmir through mountainous routes like Passerkoot and Sigdi Bhata, but his designs were thwarted by the police.
A case under FIR number 47/15 has been registered at police station Chatroo and investigation started.
Police team led by SI Rakesh Roshan made the arrest under the supervision of Sanjay Parihar, DySP DAR/SDPO Chatroo, Abdul Qayoom, ASP Kishtwar and Yougal Manhas, SP Kishtwar.
