NEW DELHI, Sept 2: A ray of hope for the ex-servicemen fighting for early implementation of One Rank One Pension scheme today emerged from Keshav Kunj, the headquarters of the the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with the saffron organisation clearly indicating to its political front–the BJP to give the Army veterans their due, as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the ramparts of Red Fort.
The issue, according to sources dominated the first session itself of the the three-day coordination meeting between the ruling BJP and its ideological mentor.
This is first such coordination meet between the RSS and the BJP after the Narendra Modi government took charge at the Centre 15 months ago.
The RSS was not happy with the way issue relating to the Armed Forces is being handled, as a relay hunger strike by the ex-servicemen entered its 80th day today with some of them fasting to death, sources said.
The Hindu nationalist organisation wanted the BJP to form a separate panel to sort out the issue and technicalities surrounding the demand.
During the meeting, issues like spread of the organisation, census figures and the recent stir of Patidars (Patels) in Gujarat are likely to be discussed.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar, Health Minister JP Nadda and other Union ministers attended the Sangh meet.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagawat and VHP leader Pravin Togadia and many other key personalities from RSS and other affiliated offshoots were also present. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to attend the meeting for a brief time. (UNI)
