JAMMU, Aug 30: To reflect on the relentless struggle and sacrifice of Jaggo Ram for the cause of downtrodden sections of the society, the Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association organized a special function at Bahu Fort, today wherein a large number of Batwal community members participated and paid floral tributes to him.
The function was headed by the Association Chairman, Sub. Maj. Romesh Sargotra.
While speaking on the occasion, the Association General Secretary R L Kaith told his community members that Jaggo Ram, a strong leader of his time, struggled relentlessly for getting a provision of reservation created by the Government for the J&K Scheduled Castes people.
He said, the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir State when came into force on January 26, 1957, was silent over any provision relating to reservation in services and posts for the Scheduled Castes, adding that there was a great resentment among the members of the Scheduled Castes who decided to fight tooth and nail to achieve their right of reservation. The struggle started for reservation was intensified in 1970.
Sub. Narayan Dass Bassa, Hav. Des Raj Kaith, Mela Ram Tugga, DarshanLal Kaith, Waryam Chand Motan, Ram Singh Kaith, Madan Raj Kaith, Jagat Ram Sargotra, Garu Ram Lakhotra, Rashpal Chand Nandan, Yash Pal Kaith, KrishanLalChanjotra and ChamanLal Kaith were among others who participated in the function.
