Police fails to trace eloped boy-girl, assailants

JAMMU, Aug 29: Gandhi Nagar and Digiana police has failed to trace the eloped boy and girl vis-à-vis assailants, who attacked the family members of the girl, when they were taking her back home to Delhi.
As per police sources, four members of the family of a girl, who had eloped with a youth, were injured in an alleged attack by a gang of armed men at Digiana area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Nagar police station, when they were taking her back home to Delhi.
The girl’s father Anil Kumar, her brother Lokesh, her uncle Rajveer and one more relative sustained injuries in the attack near Digiana. The couple managed to flee again.
The injured were taken to Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar and later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where after treatment, they were discharged.
A police team along with the father and brother of the girl, a college student, had come to Poonch to take home their daughter who had eloped with one Gagandeep Singh from Delhi.
The girl had eloped from Delhi with the youth following which her father registered a complaint against Gagandeep. The Delhi police traced them to Poonch by their mobile phone and a team reached there to catch them.
When the police team and the girl’s family members were on their way back to Delhi, a group of boys attacked them near Digiana area in Gandhi Nagar with sharp edged weapons and managed to help the girl and the youth flee, he said.
A case has been registered against the unidentified assailants at Gandhi Nagar police station and investigation is underway.
However, Gandhi Nagar police has achieved no success of tracing the eloped girl and boy vis-à-vis assailants till last reports were compiled today.
When contacted SDPO Gandhi Nagar Sachin Gupta told the Excelsior that police is making all efforts to arrest the eloped girl and boy. Hunt is also going on nab the assailants, who attacked the girl parents, when they were taking her back home to Delhi, he added.
