Srinagar, July 28: Police in north Kashmir’s Handwara of Kupwara district have busted a gang of cheaters by arresting two of its members for cheating a show room owner.
A police spokesman said that yesterday, a tyre show room owner complained to police station Handwara that an unknown person called him from cell number 8803119788 feigning to be one Dr Nissar, a child specialist from Sopore, requesting to dispatch two number of sumo tyres to Kulangam of Handwara. “He, the show room owner dispatched the tyres through a sumo driver to the address given by the caller. Few days later, the owner, made number of calls to the cell number but it was switched off for few days and one day the call was received by a lady who introduced herself as Naseema of Jaggerpora,” the spokesman said.
The police spokesman said that after few days, the complainant received a call from 9697763342 who assured him that he will pay the bill of tyres. “On this information, a case was registered under FIR number 184/2015 under section 419, 420 RPC and investigation was taken up,” the police said.
During the course of investigating two people identified as Ajaz Ahmad Khwaja and Nisaar Ahmad Mir were arrested and the tyres were recovered from them, the police spokesman said.
Police said that during further investigation, it surfaced that a lady (name withheld) in league with these cheaters used to cheat people especially the parents of unmarried daughter by assuring them to get their daughters married with well off persons such as doctors etc. “Further investigating in this regard is going on,” the police added.
