JAMMU, July 20: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Shuknandan Kumar Choudhary reviewed various PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control projects under execution in Jammu at a high level meeting here today.
Commissioner Secretary PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Parvez Ahmed Malik, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh, Commissioner JMC, Soujanya Sharma besides senior officers of PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control, ERA and UEED also attended the meeting.
Reviewing pace of the water supply schemes, the Minister directed the concerned officers to visit their respective areas regularly and monitor these schemes. He informed that the Government is mooting a prestigious plan to lift water from Chenab River for supply to Jammu and its adjoining areas.
The Minister said that Government is focusing on proper and judicious use of several water resources and to move away from dependence on a single source to multiple sources to make water supply schemes more effective and sustainable. He directed the concerned officers to expedite the pace of work on various projects to ensure regular water supply to the people, adding that instructions have been issued to the concerned to pay special attention to the rural and far-off pockets.
Mr. Sukhnandan also discussed issues regarding disposal of drainage and sewerage in Jammu city. He stressed the need for formulating a comprehensive drainage plan to cater to all existing and emerging requirements.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to regularly visit their respective areas to carry out operations to deal with water logging and put extra efforts to ensure that the people do not have to face inconvenience during rainy season.
