Jammu, July 7: Speaker State Assembly and MLA from Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta toured the rural belt of his constituency and visited various places including Gadhi Garh, Bhour Pind, Chatha and Langar.
The Speaker was accompanied by SDM, South, Shahid Mehmood; BDO, Satwari, Shahid Iqbal; X-En, PWD(R&B), Mohammad Abdullah; AEE, PWD(R&B), Rafiq Sheikh; Pt. Ashok Khajuria, Baldev Billoria, Ch. Harbans, Ludramani Sharma, Pitamber Sharma, B R Sharma, Bharat Sharma, Vijender Dutta, Rinku Chauhan and other prominent citizens of the area.
He also interacted with the PRI members and told them to make positive contribution towards development and directed the concerned officers such as SDM, BDO, Tehsildar to provide every assistance to the Panchayats to meet their objectives and should also hold quarterly or monthly meetings with the departments for which Panchayats should come up with specific development plans.
Locals put forth various demands which included posting of adequate staff in schools and healthcare institutions, opening of more health centers and schools, plantation of trees through Forest Department in various parts of these areas, improvement of roads, improvement in power distribution system, repair/replacement of damaged transformers besides various other demands.
Gupta asked the officers of the Rural Block and Revenue Department to formulate the agenda of the meetings and setting of monthly target for the completion of ongoing development works. He stressed upon for the devolution of powers and strengthening of these gross root level institutions.
Gupta assured the locals that all their genuine demands will be fulfilled and this Government will strengthen the PRI institutions by decentralizing the system for the empowerment of every citizen.
