JAMMU, June 28: Former Minster and State NCP chief, Thakur Randhir Singh, today demanded Bharat Ratan for former Prime Minister of India, PV Narsimha Rao, saying he was the architect of economic reforms in India and the one who sanctioned historical Udhampur-Baramulla Railway line as a national project.
The issue was raised by NCP chief during a meeting of senior office bearers of NCP held here today. The former Minister said that setting up of memorial of P V Narsimha Rao at Ekta Sthal Samadhi Complex at New Delhi by the present Government is a welcome step.
“State NCP is happy that though late it is being installed today on his 94th birthday at New Delhi”, he added. Singh said the memorial a plaque with significant details about Rao’s life installed on a platform, is being built at Ekta Sthal Samadhi complex.
He said that the great Prime Minister Narsimha Rao with his imaginative approach sanctioned this historical railway project to connect Kashmir valley with rest of the India from Jammu to Baramulla via Vaishno Devi and sanctioned Rs 7000 crores as a national project.
“History is never out of Fashion”, he said and demanded Bharat Ratan for late PV Narsimha Rao and Padam Vibushan to late S R Ujlain, Chief Engineer, Northern Railway who surveyed one of the most difficult railway track in the country connecting Kashmir valley with rest of India via Mata Vaishno Devi.
Singh also demanded naming of this historical railway project Jammu to Baramulla via Katra on the name of late PV Narsimha Rao.
Others who attended the meeting include Krishan Kumar Digra, Javed F Rehman, Dr Liaquat Ali Magray, RS Billowria, V K Atri, Gourav Kapoor, Sandeep Manhas, Ch Dev Raj, Abhimanyu Pratap Singh Jamwal, Amit Datta, Tandeep Singh, Vikram Mahajan, RC Bali, Rattan Chand, Dewan Chand Bassan, Kuldeep Singh Jaral and Surjeet Singh Manhas.
