Amarnath Yatra: Yatri Niwas gears up to welcome pilgrims, arrangements in full swing

JAMMU:Arrangements are in full swing to welcome  the devotees from across the country for an annual Shri Amarnath Yatra starting  from July 2.  The first batch of yatris will leave from Bhagwati Nagar  Yatri Niwas here.
Yatri Niwas, the base camp of Shri Amarnath Yatra here, is  all set to accommodate the pilgrims for the holy pilgrimage.  The district administration, along with the state  government, is making adequate arrangements for the pilgrims at the yatri niwas  with basic facilities at the doorsteps of the base camp.
Special arrangements have been made to serve hygienic  food to the yatris in the community kitchen, an official here said.
He said that besides this, facilities like medical camp,  ATMs, water, electricity, STD, have been arranged for the pilgrims on the  spot.  Apart from this, security has also been put in place in  and around the venue, he said and added that additional deployment will be made  at the base camp and for the convoys after the yatra begins.  Ahead of the pilgrimage, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu,  Simran Deep Singh in a meeting has issued orders to check the overcharging of  eatables and black-marketing.
Mr Singh also directed the Health Department to provide  ambulance service on toll free 102 number, besides asking for X-ray machines  facilities to scrutinise pilgrims’ luggage and provide them locker facilities to  safeguard their goods.   Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone Danish Rana, in a  meeting, had batted for enhanced security and vigil ahead of annual Amarnath  pilgrimage.
Security and vigilance should be enhanced in a  coordinated manner besides the need for proper regulation of yatra convoys on  the national highway, Mr Rana said while reviewing the security  arrangements.  Stressing for keeping contingency plan ready in  coordination with the civil administration, the IGP directed the concerned  officers to identify the alternate places for accommodating yatris in case yatra  halts due to landslides on highway, rainfall, or any other emergent  situation. He emphasised on wide publicity through media to inform  people to undertake their pilgrimage only on the dates as per their registration  to avoid any inconvenience.
Mr Rana exhorted upon the officers to note the highlighted  areas of concerns and put in synchronized efforts for the smooth and peaceful  conduct of yatra.
