MENDHAR, June 22: The people from Kasyot village came at Harmutta in Gursai and blocked Mendhar-Surankote road for over three hours today.
Keeping the injured widow on the cot in the middle of the road, the relatives and other villagers started shouting slogans against police. They alleged that hardly 10 days earlier, the relatives of a police officer (DySP) of the same village had attacked the family of widow- Fatima Bi and had locked them for more than 12 hours. They were later rescued by DySP Mendhar and Tehsildar. But yesterday again, the same family attacked this poor family and left this widow brutally injured. They alleged that Gursai police has failed to arrest the eight accused already booked in case FIR No. 66/ 2015 under Sections 452/323/ 342/ 147 RPC.
The victim family alleged that nearly 64 kanal of EP land in the possession of this widow and his sons for the last many decades is being grabbed by their neighbours, who have forcibly raised a structure there. With the intervention of AC Revenue Poonch and Tehsildar, the work was stopped there.
The agitating villagers today made the SHO Gursai and his men flee from the spot. Later, SDPO and Tehsildar Mendhar reached there and they pacified the villagers and assured to take cognizance of the matter. Later, they lifted dharna and allowed movement of traffic.
