JAMMU, June 22: A comprehensive nutrition procurement policy is in offing which will necessitate tendering procedure as mandatory for acquirement of diet in ICDS centers besides ensuring testing of nutrition at multi levels for quality supply.
This was informed by the Minister for Social Welfare, Forest, Ecology and Environment Bali Bhagat while addressing a function at Brahman Sabha Parade organized by Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association, Jammu, in which hundreds of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers participated.
While speaking on the occasion, the Minister asked the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers to perform their job with utmost care and concern as they have been entrusted with a big responsibility of nurturing the nation’s future. “You have a significant role to play in dissemination of information about various schemes of the department meant for development and welfare of poor and needy sections of the society” he said while asking them to take their task as a mission. He asked them to display the status of nutrition stock in their respective Anganwadi centres at conspicuous places.
The Minister asked the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers to create massive awareness about “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” scheme as they have direct interaction with the people at grass root levels. He said that daughters are playing equal role in social, economic, cultural and political progress and prosperity of the nation and it should be our moral responsibility to encourage them in all their endeavors.
Elaborating on several measures being initiated by the Government to further enhance and improve the services of the department, the Minister informed that about 3200 new Anganwari Centres would soon be opened in the uncovered areas of the State.
President Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh Subash Verma, General Secretary Ashok Choudhary, President Anganwadi Workers Welfare Associations Swarna Choudhary, General Secretary AWWA Neelam Sharma, other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
Ashok Choudhary submitted a charter of demands of the workers which included revocation of termination order of various Anganwari Workers, release of eight month pending salary, enhancement in salary of Anganwari Workers and Helpers, review of six hours duty instead of 4 hours, supply of quality nutrition, improvement in distribution system, 100% promotion for supervisor post with proper seniority list, increase in fuel charges to Rs. 500, introduction of E.P.F and E.S.I scheme for low paid workers, etc.
The Minister assured that all these issues would be looked into for redressal at the earliest besides the matter of termination order of AWs will also be taken up for necessary action.
