Police chief’s midnight call

SRINAGAR, Aug 14:
It was a pleasant surprise for policemen in the city especially in the downtown area when Director General of Police Ashok Prasad came calling at midnight on the eve of Independence Day.
Prasad, who took over as the chief of 1.2 lakh police force late last month, visited various police pickets erected en route in the downtown area for a surprise check.
Accompanied by a small group of officials and his two PSOs, Prasad visited police stations Khanyar, Maharaj Gunj, Rainawari in the downtown area and Kothi Bagh in civil lines area.
“It was a pleasant surprise to have him with us in the dead of the night,” said a Station House Officer.
Besides checking the alertness of his personnel, the Police Chief also inquired about the problems being faced by them.
Prasad, according to sources, had decided to take a round of the city during the night in a bid to boost the morale of his men who have been put on extra alert due to the Independence Day tomorrow. (PTI)
