JAMMU, May 5: The Union Government has given its nod to the proposal for enhancement of monthly cash relief for Kashmiri migrants from May 1, this year.
A letter to this effect was today dispatched by Union Home Ministry to State Government. With the Centre’s approval the Kashmiri migrants will get Rs 2500 as relief per soul from May 1 maximum to Rs 10,000 for four souls and above.
Confirming this, official sources told Excelsior that Union Home Ministry has written a letter to State Government giving its nod to enhancement of cash relief to Kashmiri migrants from Rs 1650 per soul at present to Rs 2500 per soul.
Sources said the new scale of relief will be applicable from May 1 and every Kashmiri relief holder will get relief as per the enhanced rate from May 1.
This way a long pending demand of the displaced relief holders was fulfilled, sources said. Kashmiri migrants were getting relief at the rate of Rs 1650 per soul maximum to Rs 6600 for four souls and above, sources added.
It may be recalled that proposal for enhancement of relief was submitted to previous State Government to Centre over one year back.
The proposal, which was under the active consideration of Union Home Ministry was sent to Finance Ministry recently for its concurrence.
