JAMMU, Apr 20: Alleging that due to untimely rain and thunderstorms their Rabi crops has been totally damaged, Basmati Rice Growers Association (BRGA), J&K, today demanded the Government to declare 100% loss of Rabi crops and compensate accordingly.
Addressing a press conference, Choudhary Dev Raj, president, BRGA, said that as the rains damaged the Rabi crops of the farmers totally and it has become difficult for them to survive. Therefore, the Government should declare the loss of farmers’ crops as 100% and provide compensation accordingly like other States of the Country.
Alleging that the farmers even did not get compensation for their crops damaged in September last year, he demanded the Government to provide the same to the farmers.
They criticized the Government for only giving hollow assurances to the border victims, alleging no compensation has been given to the families suffering in Indo-Pak firing on IB.
They further said that due to loss of Rabi as well as Kharif crops due to rains farmers are unable to pay the loans of tractors, so the Government should provide 50% compensation to the farmers in view of loss of payment on tractors.
The Association demanded the State Government to take a bold decision like Delhi Government and announce Rs 25000 per Acre of compensation to the farmers.
