JAMMU, Apr 8: An English book titled ‘Origin, Rise and Growth of Gujjars’ by Ch Ghulam Sarwar Chouhan was released in an impressive function jointly organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Adbi Sanngat Kashmir here at K L Saigal Hall, this afternoon.
Ch Abdul Ghani Kohli, Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) was the chief guest while Masud Chowdhary, former BGSB University, Haroon Rashid, Secretary JKAACL, Dr Javaid Rahi, Chief Editor of Academy and Salam Din Bajjar, president, Adbi Sangat Kashmir were in the presidium.
While speaking on the occasion, Kohli said this tribal section of society constitutes an important portion of total population of the State and requires special attention of researchers to document their history, culture and ethnicity for an in-depth study.
He said that Government will persue the inclusion of Gojri in the Eighth Schedule of Indian constitution which will help this significant language to flourish in a big way.
Haroon Rashid said that the main aim of this programme was to highlight the work of Ghulam Sarwar Chouhan on Gujjar ethnicity in the shape of this book. He said Chouhan has done a pioneering work for development of Gojri Language and authored six books.
Dr Javaid Rahi, while speaking about the book stated that it covers different views and opinion of all big historians about origin and history of Gujjars.
Masud Chowdhary in his presidential address stated that Ghulam Sarwar Chohuan has done a basic work to assemble the missing part of history of Gujjars.
Ghulam Sarwar Chouhan -the author stated that during the process of research some new facts also emerged which need a thorough evaluation.
Ch Talib Hussain, former Member Parliament, said Gujjars origin cannot be traced isolatable without the help of Anthropology and Biology which will give us proper clue about the origin of Gujjars.
Dr Lalit Gupta presented a paper on the book and elevated the merit of the work done by Gh Sarwar Chouhan.
