JAMMU, Apr 8: On the martyrdom day of great freedom fighter Mangal Pandey, BJP Freedom Fighters & Martyrs Cell, under the leadership of its State convenor, Bharat Bhushan Sharma and Co-convenor Ashok Mishra, organized a programme at party headquarters, wherein floral tributes were paid to this great martyr.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP State Vice-President Col. (retd) Uttam Singh said, “although some martyrs names mentioned in the history books but there are thousands and thousands of unsung heroes, who left the luxuries of life at their youth and jumped into the freedom struggle. We have to remember all such martyrs and this will be the real tribute to such people”.
State general secretary (Org.) Ashok Kaul, in his address dwelt at length on the battles of 1857, 1905, 1942-1947. He said that the freedom movement stood in three phases and the revolt of 1857 was the first such agitation which every Indian fought. The freedom could not be achieved at earlier stages due to the divide and rule policy of British, which lured many Indians who took the side of British.
BJP State spokesperson Farooq Khan said that Mangal Pandey took a revolt which had the participation of all the religions and regions and trained the people for a much bigger and massive battle for getting rid of slavery.
BJYM State Prabhari Yudhvir Sethi said that it was the first revolt in the Indian history, which later erupted into a Volcano and culminated at ouster of the cruel British era from the Indian soil.
MLC Sofi Yousuf said, ‘merely remembering such martyrs will not serve the purpose as still we have to follow the path shown by them’. He further said that such struggle also needed at this point of time to vacate parts of India that are under illegal occupation of Pakistan and China.
Goa Freedom Fighter Pt. Atma Ram Sharma said that it was Mangal Pandey who posed an open challenge to the British with a clear message that the Indians will not tolerate them and will not rest till the motherland becomes free from the clutches of British rule.
Ex-MLA Ashwani Sharma said that the seed sown by Mangal Pandey gave a direction to the patriotic Indians, who came forward in lakhs to fight the atrocities and slavery of British.
Bharat Bhushan Sharma presented vote of thanks while BJYM State general secretary Ajay Pargal conducted the proceedings of the programme.
