Speaker adjourns House for lack of quorum

JAMMU, Apr 1: The Speaker Kavinder Gupta today adjourned State Assembly for five minutes due to lack of quorum.
As the House was discussing the Calling Attention Motion of R S Pathania, MLA Ramnagar and the Minister of State incharge PHE, I&FC Department G A Padder was replying the Motion, the opposition members stood up from their seats saying that it is they who have maintained quorum in the House. They said only 18 members form ruling alliance were present in the House.
Protesting against the coalition members for not taking the business of the House seriously, the opposition members including Devender Singh Rana, Vikar Rasool, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi others left the House. Soon Congress MLA, G A Saroori stood up from his seat saying that there was no quorum. Later the Speaker adjourned the House for five minutes on 12-55pm.
Soon the opposition members returned to the House along with some members of treasury benches at 1 pm and the quorum was restored.
After the House reassembled NC’s Nazir Gurezi asked the Speaker to take the ruling alliance members to task as it is their duty to maintain the quorum. However the Minister, of Social Welfare and Forests Bali Bhagat came to their rescue saying that the ministers are in Upper House where the business is taking place.
Not satisfied with Minister’s reply Gurezi said what business was there as Question Hour is over. The Opposition wanted to know where is Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister. The Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari however informed the House that the Chief Minister was in Srinagar while the Deputy Chief Minister is pre-occupied with some important work.
