SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, who rushed from winter capital Jammu to Srinagar today, was briefed about the measures taken by the administration to tackle flood situation in Valley.
An official spokesman said here that Mr Vohra, spoke to Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and was briefed about the steps underway to timely deal with the situation arising from the incessant rains in the past days and the present level of Jhelum River.
During his three-day stay in the Valley, the Governor shall visit Gulmarg to address the Young Investigators Meeting (YIM) 2015, which is being attended by 120 Scientists, including Sir Tim Hunt, Nobel Laureate, and a large number of leading scientists from the USA, the UK, Germany, South Africa, Sweden, Finland and Australia. Besides, 41 eminent scientists from the leading national institutions of science, technology, engineering, biological sciences, agricultural sciences, medical sciences, immunology, fundamental research and integrative medicine are participating in the YIM.
The Governor shall also preside over a Special Convocation of the University of Kashmir on April 1, at which Dr C N R Rao, eminent Scientist and Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister, shall be honoured by vesting on him an Honorary Doctorate.
