JAMMU, Aug 5: Few days after a tunnel constructed by Pakistan was detected on the International Border (IB) at Chechwal, Samba, the Pakistani Rangers opened firing on the IB at Arnia sector tonight.
Official reports said the Rangers started firing at Kot Kubba and Budhwar posts of Arnia sector at 8.40 pm. The firing was heavy for few minutes but later it continued intermittently.
No reasons have been ascertained behind the firing so far, the reports said, adding that the Rangers might have tried to push infiltrators into this side under the cover of heavy firing, which was thwarted by the BSF jawans.
It may be mentioned here that the security personnel were maintaining high alert on the IB after the detection of tunnel at Chechwal, Samba.
There were no casualties or damage in the firing, which continued till late tonight.
This was for the first time that the Rangers fired on the IB after their mischief in the form of a tunnel construction from Pakistan to over 300 meters deep into the Indian side was detected on July 27. The construction of the tunnel was aimed at pushing infiltrators and narcotics into the Indian side.
