JAMMU, Aug 5: The vehicles of State Road Transport Corporation remained off the road on the third consecutive day of the strike today while several employees bodies have accorded support to the agitating Transport workers.
From the Jammu and Srinagar depots of the SRTC, not even a single vehicle plied today. The workers went on strike on August 3 in protest against the forcible shifting of the SRTC headquarters from Moulana Azad Road, Srinagar near TRC to Nowgam. The workers have opposed the move alleging that no facility has been raised for the staff there and the shifting process was premature. The workers have resolved to take out protest rallies in Jammu and Srinagar cities tomorrow.
Meanwhile, J&K Employees and Workers United Front, (GEWUF) comprising of JKEJAC, State Government EJAC, EJAC (Kargil) and EJAC (Leh) have extended full support to the ongoing strike of SRTC employees of the State, in the meetings held simultaneously at Jammu, Srinagar, Leh and Kargil.
The meetings also discussed the situation arisen out of taking over the SRTC assets or property by the State Government in a dictatorial manner violating norms of civilized behaviour.
All the members called upon the State Government to refrain from strong-arm tactics and assuage the grievances of the SRTC employees.
They demanded full security for the SRTC employees and asked the Government to stop its unethical approach towards them.
Prominent among those who attended the meetings included Ram Kumar Sharma, Rafiq Ahmed Khanyari, Syeda Ladkhi, Babu Hussain Malik, Javeed Ahmed Akhoon, Parshotam Sharma, Sanjay Dhar, Azaz Ahmed Khan, Suresh Sharma, Farooq Ahmed and Mukthar Ahmed Khan.
