JAMMU, Mar 1: Taking pot-shots at BJP Ministers for swearing allegiance to the same Constitution of the State, which their ideologue Shyama Prasad Mukherjee died trying to get rid off, the former Chief Minister and National Conference working president Omar Abdullah today sought to embarrass the Saffron party by also seeking explanation on the incumbent CM Mufti Sayeed’s remark that Pakistan allowed elections in J&K.
“BJP Ministers swearing allegiance to the same Constitution of J&K that Shyama Prasad Mukherjee died trying to get rid of,” Omar said in a tweet soon after the new Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers were administered oath of secrecy, here today.
It may be recalled that BJP ideologue and Jan Sangh founder, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had died under detention at Lakhanpur jail on June 23, 1953 while opposing special status for J&K State and demanding its full integration with the Indian Union.
In a series of messages on microblogging site Twitter, Omar further attempted to make BJP more uncomfortable by seeking the saffron part’s explanation on role of security forces and polling staff in light of Mufti Mohd Sayeed’s controversial remark that Pakistan, Hurriyat and militants allowed peaceful conduct of elections in J&K.
“BJP India please explain roll of security forces & polling staff considering your CM just said Pakistan allowed elections in J&K,” he tweeted and also mocked at Mufti Sayeed in other messages, ” Pakistan, Hurriyat & militants allowed peaceful conduct of elections, says Mufti Sayeed. I guess we should be grateful for their generosity” and “Dear Mufti Sahib, thank you a thousand times for this press conference.”
In a late evening tweet, Omar once again flashed a message saying “CM of J&K is getting roasted on TV news channels & it isn’t me. Life is good.”
Giving the reference of Sajjad Lone, who took oath as a Cabinet Minister in the PDP-BJP Government today, Omar predicted that more separatist leader may join the mainstream in near future. “Sajjad Lone becomes the first high profile separatist to join the mainstream & becomes a Minister but he won’t be the last, that is for sure,” he tweeted.
Though the former Chief Minister did not forget to congratulate Mufti Sayeed on assuming the office as CM as well as the newly sworn Ministers and conveyed all good wishes to them for discharge of their duties, he also mocked at PDP’s Mohammad Ashraf Mir saying with a smiley, “Ashraf was the same person who fired an AK47 to celebrate when he beat me. What the hell will he fire today to celebrate becoming Minister”.
The NC leader also underlined at the apparently poor representation of Kargil in the Mufti Sayeed Cabinet, saying “Ladakh gets a Minister but Kargil doesn’t, while Srinagar gets 3. There will be considerable heartburn in Kargil at this development.”
“Congratulations to the newly sworn in Ministers of J&K. All good wishes for the discharge of your duties,” Omar said besides giving a personal message to Sayeed on the microblogging site, “Congratulations to Mufti Mohd Sayeed Sb on assuming the office of CM of J&K. I wish you all the very best for your term as CM.”
