BJP, NC to name candidates today

JAMMU, Feb 16: The BJP and NC were likely to finalize their candidates for the Legislative Council tomorrow while the PDP today announced Firdous Tak as its sixth candidate for the elections due to be held on March 2.
Insiders in the political parties said the BJP top brass met in New Delhi today but would finally announce candidates for five seats which it would contest in alliance with the PDP tomorrow.
The BJP has, however, finalized the name of Chering Dorjey for Leh reserved seat within Kashmir province. Dorjey had unsuccessfully contested the recent Assembly election on BJP mandate from Leh Assembly seat.
NC leaders said party working president Omar Abdullah today reached New Delhi from London and was likely to take decision on two seats the party would contest in alliance with Congress-one each for Jammu and Kashmir provinces. The NC can win two seats with the help of Congress and Independents.
The PDP, which has already finalized five candidates, today announced Firdous Tak as its sixth candidate for Jammu seat. Tak had unsuccessfully contested Assembly election from Kishtwar on the PDP ticket.
As per PDP-BJP seat sharing agreement, PDP will contest six seats and BJP five out of a total of 11.
