JAMMU, Feb 16: A delegation from Ladakh comprising Nawang Rigzin Jora, MLA, Leh; Deldan Namgail, MLA, Nobra, Asgar Ali Karbalaie, MLA Kargil, Mohd. Baqir Rizvi, MLA, Zanskar, Narboo Gialchan, MLC, and Councillors of LAHDC- Leh and Kargil, called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, here at the Raj Bhavan today.
The delegation apprised the Governor about their demands relating to inclusion of all villages in Nubra Valley under the Border Area Development Programme, expediting the work on extension of Kargil Airport, regularization of casual laboureres, requirement of funds for clearing the pending liabilities on account of infrastructural development and other essential services in Leh, a motorable road from Panikhar to Pahalgam, opening up of potential tourist spots for foreign tourists and development of tourism related infrastructure there.
The delegation expressed their gratitude to the Governor for his timely intervention in NDMA deploying an expert team to assess the nature of intervention for removing the blockage of Phuktal River.
The Governor assured the delegation to look into all the raised issues. It is pertinent to mention that the Governor has already addressed Mr. Parrikar, Union Defence Minister, to seek his urgent intervention for expediting the extension of the Kargil Airport runway from 6000 feet to 7500 feet.
In the recent Governor’s Conference, held at New Delhi this month, the Governor has strongly recommended an increase in the annual allocations for the Border Blocks under the Border Area Development Programme. He has also urged attention to the maintenance of roads and highways and a number of tunnels being constructed to enable all weather links in the State.
