UGC funded Community College in BGSBU starts functioning

RAJOURI, Feb 13:  In order to help people in getting self employment, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University has become the only University in J&K for which University Grants Commission has funded Community College (CC).
Funded by UGC, College has become functional with the efforts of Vice Chancellor Prof IA Hamal who had instructed a faculty member to initiate the process. Today an interaction of students of this college was held with Vice Chancellor Prof Irshad Ahmed Hamal in the Department of Management Studies of the University. Registrar MR Choudhary has been designated as Principal of the College while Dr Gaurav Seghal has been appointed as Nodal Officer.
On the occasion, Prof Irshad Hamal appealed local residents to come and undergo vocational training for initiating entrepreneurship. He said that this programme will help a long way ahead to the people and students above class 12th.
Dean Academic Affairs Prof AK Koul asked the students to undertake the course as target-oriented.
Earlier briefing about the programme, Nodal Officer Community College Dr Gaurav Sehgal said that every student admitted to this  Colleges will be granted monthly scholarship of 1000/-, so that they learn and earn.
He added that the Community College will offer low cost, high quality education comprising vocational skills development and traditional course work so that the pass-outs can either move directly to the job market for employment or pursue higher education sector, if they so desire.
The BGSBU Community College has initiated with add-on course on Travel & Tourism Management which is open to 10+2 pass-outs of all streams and to all such students enrolled to any other under- or postgraduate programme.
The students will have the option to offer Stage one, two or all three and accordingly get Certificate, Advanced Certificate or Diploma. The add-on course is part-time and can be pursued with any other under-postgraduate courses that a student may be pursuing.
