Conduct random checking of ultrasound clinics: DDC

UDHAMPUR, Feb 13: To review the implementation of J&K Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Sex Determination Test (PC&PNDT) Act in Udhampur district, District Development Commissioner Yasha Mudgal convened a meeting of the members of the District Advisory Committee here today.
Threadbare discussions were held on various issues which include registration & renewal of ultrasound centres, mechanism for monitoring and implementation of PC&PNDT Act and holding of IEC activities for general awareness etc.
Mrs. Mudgal stressed upon the Advisory Committee to make random checking of ultrasound clinics in the district for effective monitoring and implementation of PC&PNDT Act. She directed CMO to provide data for all abortions in last five years from private nursing homes running in the district. She also instructed him for installation of CCTV cameras in the private nursing homes for proper monitoring of abortion cases in the district.
Expressing concern over the illegal practice of pre-natal sex selection, the DDC stressed for creating awareness about the gender equality through advocacy and communication efforts.
During the meeting, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Arun Sharma gave detail account of activities being carried out by the Health Department for general awareness in year 2014-15.
Among others, Joint Director Planning, Rakesh Jamwal, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Dr. Chander Prakash, DIO, Dr A. Hansa,  Sr. Most Gynecologist, District Social welfare Officer,  Radiologist,  Advocate Bharatbhushan  and Tariq of NGO Jiyo Aur Jeene Do,  were  also present in the meeting.
