JAMMU, Jan 19: One day state level workshop on the recently announced scheme by the Prime Minister – Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) was today held at EDI by J&K IMPA and Department of Rural Department and Panchayati Raj.
The workshop was attended by Members of Parliament, Jugal Kishore, Thuptang Chewang, MLCs Ravinder Sharma, Secretary Rural Development, Shafat Noor Barlas, Director Rural Development, Jammu, Shafeeq Raina, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ajit Sahu, Deputy Commissioner Samba, Mubarak Singh, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Itrat Hussain Rafeeqi, State Coordinator SAGY, Yunis Malik, State Level Trainers of the Scheme, Dr. A. N. Alam, Dr. Riva Sharma, officers nominated for different SAGYs, representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions of the villages to be undertaken under the scheme and other senior officers were present.
The workshop covered various aspects including understanding SAGY, identification of Halqa Panchayats (HPs) responsibilities of stakeholders and proposed strategies, status of SAGY and capacity Building and Training (CB&T) Plan in the State besides discussing the developmental activities in Adarsh Gram, participatory planning under SAGY and formulation of recommendations on roadmap and timelines.
It is pertinent to mention that the scheme of SAGY was announced by the Prime Minister as a measure to ensure the overall development of the villages identified and in this regard ten villages have so far been nominated for the State of Jammu and Kashmir, which include Neva (Pulwama), Manigam (Ganderbal), Kaliyaban (Baramulla), Litterwan (Kupwara), Malhore (Shopian), Hanu (Leh), Berthi (Doda), Sangwali (Samba) and Matwar (Jammu). The scheme envisages a comprehensive development of the villages under the supervision of the concerned Members of Parliament.
The participants highlighted the various important points regarding the implementation, preparation of baselines for undertaking development under different sectors besides incorporating the views of the members of the Panchayati Raj representatives there by making the scheme a holistic and need based one.
At the very outset, the Secretary Rural Development gave a brief overview about the schemes and its importance in ensuring the overall and holistic development of the villages to be undertaken under the same. He asked the officers concerned to ensure its speedy implementation besides taking regular meetings about the status of SAGY so that the activities of the different departments involved are synergized in a proper and coordinated manner.
