Cop arrested for befooling people on pretext of jobs

JAMMU, Dec 31: Channi Himmat police arrested a police cop for befooling the people on the pretext of providing them jobs in the Police Department in lieu of money.
As per police sources, around 15 people hailing from different areas including Ramnagar, Gulab Garh and Akhnoor were lured by a cop of Indian Reserve Police (IRP) 3rd battalion namely Babu Ram, son of Sansar Singh, a resident of Trah on pretext of proving them jobs in the Police Department in lieu of money.
The follower attached as ‘Laangri’ with some higher police official asked the people that he can arrange the jobs for them in the Police Department as he is having links with higher authorities in the Department. On this assurance, the people deposited the money in the account of the follower amounting Rs 45 to 50 lakh.
When the people came to know that they have been befooled by the cop, they approached police station Channi Himmat.
Acting on the number of complaints, Channi police started investigation and finally arrested the accused cop during a special naka laid at Channi Rama.
A case under relevant Sections was registered with police station Channi Himmat and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Channi Himmat police station Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq Malik, SP South Rahul Malik and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
