Srinagar, Dec 26: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that took lead in 39 Assembly segments during Parliamentary polls early this year in Kashmir valley’s 46 Assembly segments managed to win only 25 seats suffering major reverses while National Conference made major gains since Parliamentary polls by increasing its seat share from five to 12.
The NC gained Ganderbal, Kangan, Eidgah, Sonawari, Beerwa, Budgam, Pahalgam and Shangas assembly segments but lost Amira Kadal. PDP on the other hand lost Ganderbal, Kangan, Bandipora, Sonawari, Kupwara, Sopore, Beerwah, Budgam, Pahalgam, Devsar, Shangas, Homeshalibugh and Kulgam. However, they gained Amira Kadal.
In Kangan Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3607 votes with its candidate polling 21124 votes and NC candidate 17517 votes in parliamentary polls early this year. However, NC regained this segment as its candidate Mian Altaf defeated his nearest rival PDP candidate Bashir Ahmad Mir by 1432 votes. Altaf polled 25, 812 and Mir 24380.
In Ganderbal Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3013 votes with its candidate polling 13320 votes and NC candidate 10307 votes. The Assembly segment was represented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. However, NC regained it as its candidate Sheikh Ashfaq defeated PDP candidate Qazi Mohammad Afzal by 587 votes. Ashafaq polled 19478 and Qazi polled 18881 votes
In Eidgah Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 1197 votes with its candidate polling 3531 votes and NC candidate 2334 votes. However, Mubarak Gul regained this segment by defeating PDP candidate Ali Mohammad Wani by a margin of 608 votes. Gul polled 6766 votes and Wani polled 6151.
In Amira Kadal Assembly segment NC got a lead of 323 votes with its candidate polling 2938 votes and NC candidate 2615 votes in parliament polls. However, PDP candidate Syed Altaf Ahmad Bukhari defeated Nasir Sogami by a margin of 5341 votes. Bukhari polled 11, 726 votes and Wani polled 6385 votes.
In Khan Sahib Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 9742 votes with its candidate polling 15868 votes and NC candidate 6126 votes in parliamentary elections. However, PDP candidate Saifudin Bhat lost to independent candidate Hakim Mohammad Basinby 1109 votes. Hakeem polled 26649 votes and Bhat 25540 votes.
In Budgam Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3191 votes with its candidate polling 15377 votes and NC candidate 12186 votes in parliamentary elections. However, this time theNC candidate Aga Ruhullah defeated PDP candidate Ghulam Mohidin Bhat by a margin of 2787. Aga got 30090 votes and Bhat 27, 303 votes.
In Beerwah Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 2179 votes with its candidate polling 13012 votes and NC candidate 10833 votes in parliamentary elections. However, NC candidate and outgoing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah defeated Congress candidate by a margin of over 910 votes and PDP candidate Dr Mohammad Shafi who stood at number 3. Omar polled 23, 717 votes and Nazir Khan of Congress 22807 votes.
In Kulgam Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 5069 votes with its candidate polling 10112 votes and NC candidate 5043 votes. However, CPI (M) candidate Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami defeated PDP candidate Nazir Ahmad Lawvay by a margin of 334 votes in the Assembly elections. Targami polled 20, 574 votes and Lawvay 20, 240 votes.
In Home Shalibugh Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 1272 votes with its candidate polling 6211 votes and NC candidate 4939 votes. However, NC candidate Abdul Majid defeated PDP candidate Abdul Gaffar Sofi by a margin of 1269 votes. Majid polled 11, 406 votes and Sofi 10137 votes.
In Pahalgam Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 10231 votes with its candidate polling 24355 votes and NC candidate 14124 votes in parliament elections. However, NC candidate Altaf Ahmad Wani defeated PDP candidate Rafi Ahmad Mir by a margin of 904 votes. Wani polled 25232 votes and Mir 24328 votes.
In Devsar Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3031 votes with its candidate polling 18047 votes and NC candidate 15016 votes in parliament polls. However, this seat was taken by Congress candidate Mohammad Amin Bhat who defeated PDP candidate Sartaj Madni by 1511 votes. Bhat polled 20162 votes and Madni polled 18, 651 votes.
In Shangus Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 5877 votes with its candidate ipolling 15504 votes and NC candidate 9627 votes in the Parliament elections. However, PDP’s Peerzada Mansoor lost to Congress candidate Gulzar Ahmad Wani by a margin of 2189 votes. Wani polled 21, 085 votes and Peerzada 18, 896 votes.
In Kupwara Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 1905 votes with its candidate polling 21275 votes and NC candidate 19370 votes in Parliament polls. However, PDP candidate Mohammad Fayaz Mir lost to PC candidate Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar by a margin of 151. Dar polled 24754 votes and Mir 24, 603 votes.
In Bandipora Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 254 votes with its candidate polling 7176 votes and NC candidate 6922 votes. However, PDP candidate Nizamudin Bhat lost to Congress candidate Usman Majid by a margin of 3733 votes. Usman polled 25, 084 votes and Bhat polled 21, 341.
In Sonawari Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 6835 votes with its candidate polling 8706 votes and NC candidate 1871 votes. However, NC’s Mohammad Akbar Lone defeated PDP candidate Yasir Reshi by a margin of 406 votes. Lone polled 32567 votes and Reshi 32161 votes.
