SRINAGAR : Chill revisits Kashmir during the day in to icy cold winds coupled with cloudy sky though there has been prediction that weather will remain dry but cold during the next 24 hours.
Night temperature remained below normal in the valley while people continued to freeze as the minimum temperature at Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region was below minus 11 degrees Celsius.
A Met department spokesperson said this afternoon that weather will remain dry and cold during the next 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir.
There would be no change during the subsequent four days, he said.
After recording below normal night temperature, people woke up to a cloudy morning coupled with icy cold winds, resulting in chill.
However, due to strike and restrictions in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Srinagar visit today, people remained indoor.
There was no respite from the chill in Ladakh region, where water bodies remained frozen, affecting normal life. The spokesperson said the minimum temperature at Leh was recorded at minus 11.2 degree, witnessing an improvement against yesterday’s minus 12.4 degrees. Similarly, at Kargil it was minus 11.2 degrees, slightly up against minus 11.4 degrees recorded yesterday. Though the minimum temperature witnessed some improvement in the summer capital, Srinagar, the day started with cloudy sky and icy cold winds.
The spokesperson said the night temperature in the city was recorded at minus 1.6 degree, half a notch below normal. However, it was up by a notch against yesterday’s minus 2.6 degree, coldest of the season so far. He said the sky would be partly cloudy with haze and mist in the morning tomorrow and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 13 degrees and minus 2 degree respectively.
There was no change in the minimum temperature at Pahalgam as it remained cold at minus 4.4 degree for the past about one week.
At world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, the night temperature remained minus 2.4 degree, about 1.5 notches above normal. Gulmarg resort awaits first major snowfall on the slopes though sky remained cloudy during the night. Qazigund recorded minus 3.4 degree, Kokernag minus 2.2 degree and Kupwara minus 2.5 degree minimum temperature. (AGENCIES)
