JAMMU, Dec 6: To provide free legal services besides amicable settlement of the disputes and to reduce pendency of cases in courts, the National Lok Adalat was held across the State.
In connection with National Lok Adalat, J&K State Legal Services Authority under the patronage of Justice MM Kumar, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Patron-in-Chief, J&K State Legal Services Authority under the guidance and supervision of  Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Judge, High Court of J&K and Executive Chairman, J&K State Legal Services Authority,  Lok Adalats were organized across the State at Tehsil, District and High Court levels with the co-operation of Advocates, Public, Executive, Bank officials and Insurance officials, in which large number of cases were placed and settled amicably.
Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Judge J&K High Court who is also the Executive Chairman J&K State Legal Services Authority today inaugurated the Second National Lok Adalat, organized here at J&K High Court Complex, Jammu.
Justice Tashi Rabstan, Judge, High Court of J&K, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal, Judge, High Court of J&K and officers of Registry and State Legal Services Authority were present at the inaugural function.
Justice Mir in his interaction with media persons highlighted the importance of Lok Adalats and said that these are effective means of resolving the disputes and help to reduce pendency of cases in courts besides saving time and money of the litigants.
Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir highlighted the Importance of settlement through Lok Adalats and legal services institutions constituted under the Act, for spreading the awareness about the welfare of the people were the main objective for conducting of such Adalats at national level.
At Doda, Tehsil Legal Services Authority organised A National Lok Adalat in the court complex of Chief Judicial Magistrate. The programme was inaugurated by Tahir Khurshid Raina, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Doda. Rajeev Gupta, Chief Judicial Magistrate Doda, Chairman TLSC Doda presented the welcome address. In the Lok Adalat, around 970 cases of various natures were disposed off.
At Udhampur, District Legal Services Authority organized a National Lok Adalat in the premises of District Court Complex under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Uhampur, RK Wattal. Judge High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, Justice, BL Bhatt who is also Administrative Judge for District Udhampur inaugurated the National Lok Adalat. During the National Lok Adalat, 2372 cases were settled and an amount of Rs 46, 85, 000 was given as compensation under MACT and Rs 8, 26, 48, 974 as recovery besides Rs 18,21,400 was recovered as traffic and Judicial fine while Rs 1.5 lakh were given in flood cases.
At Poonch, National Lok Adalat was held in District Court Complex Poonch, which was inaugurated by Jaffer Hussain Beg, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Principal, District and Sessions Judge. DDC Poonch Mohammad Hussain was chief guest, while SSP Poonch JS Johar was guest of honour. Around 1900 cases were settled during the National Lok Adalat. At Surankote, the National Lok Adalat was held, which was presided over by Sub Judge JMIC and assisted by Javed Ahmed Rana, Additional Special Mobile magistrate Surankote. A total of 533 cases were settled. At Mendhar, Wajahait Kazmi, Munsiff, JMIC presided over the National Lok Adalat and assisted by Romesh Lal, SDM Mendhar. A total of 393 cases were disposed off.
At Kargil, National Lok Adalat was held in the Court Complex Kargil under the chairmanship of Ashok Kumar Shavan, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority. A total of 535 cases were settled and an award amounting to Rs 34.80 lakh was passed in MACT, Rs 1.08 fine was realsied from defaulters and effected bank recovery of Rs 23.30 lakh.
At Samba, National Lok Adalat was held in the District Court Complex under the chairmanship of Inder Singh, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority. During the National Lok Adalat, a total of 1402 cases were settled.
At Kathua, National Lok Adalat was organised at District Headquarters Kathua and also at Bani, Basohli, Billawar and Hiranagar. Six benches were constituted at Kathua which disposed of around 3515 cases while 5089 cases were decided all over the district. District Magistrate Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Principal District and Sessions Judge Vinod Chatterjee Koul and SSP Kathua Pawan Parihar decided 1004 pending relief cases of years 2012-13, 2013-14 and awarded an amount of Rs 28.10 Lakhs. The bench also settled 1028 MGNREGA works cases and awarded claims worth Rs 4.58 crore.
At Ramban, National Lok Adalat was held in District Court Complex under the chairmanship of Rajesh Sekhri, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority. A total of 3275 cases were disposed off and an amount of over Rs 60 lakh was realized and paid to the claimants in MACT Cases, amount of Rs 21 lakh was recovered in bank cases, besides Rs 2.26 lakh (fine) in criminal cases.
At Rajouri, National Lok Adalat was held at District Court Complex Rajouri and at Nowshera, Sunderbani, Kalakote, Thannamandi, Budhal and Koteranka under the chairmanship of Sanjay Gupta, Principal District and Sessions Judge and assietd by Nighat Sultana, Additional District and Sessions Judge. A total of 2568 cases were decided and a fine of Rs 2.38 lakh was recovered.
National Lok Adalat was held in the district court complex Bhaderwah, Doda and Thathri under the chairmanship of Sanjeev Gupta, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Principal, District and Sessions Judge Bhaderwah. A total of 1230 cases of different nature were disposed off and an award amounting to Rs 1.75 crore was passed in MACT and other cases. A composition fine of Rs 1.05 lakh was recovered on spot from the defaulters in petty offences.
To provide free legal services besides amicable settlement of the disputes and to reduce pendency of cases in courts, the second National Lok Adalat was held across the valley today.
At Srinagar, District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar organized a National Lok Adalat at the High Court Complex. The Lok Adalat settled 225 cases amicably besides a compensation of Rs 5.50 crore including bank cases of Rs 4.59 crore and other cases of Rs 4.87 lakh were sanctioned during the Lok Adalat on spot. The Lok Adalat was inaugurated by the High Court Judge, Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and attended by Justice Husnain Masoodi, Justice Ali Mohammad Magray, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Rohit Kansal, Registrar Judicial High Court, MY Wani, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah and Joint Registrar High Court, Gowhar Majid Dalal.
District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar also organized a National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex, Sanat Ghar, Bemina, Srinagar which was inaugurated by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, Rashid Ali Dar. As many as 14410 cases of different nature were taken up and out of which 13,000 cases were settled amicably and a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh for violation of different statues besides compensation of Rs 3.30 crore was awarded in MACT cases, Rs 43.75 lakh Bank loans were also recovered during the Lok Adalat. The Lok Adalat was attended by Additional District Judge, Mohammad Ashraf Malik, 2nd Additional District Judge, Tasleem Arif, 3rd Additional District Judge, RK Sapru, 4th Additional District Judge, Mrs. Shazia Tabassum and other Judges.
At Baramulla, National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by High Court Judge who is also Administrative Judge for Baramulla, Justice Hasnain Masoodi at District Court Complex Baramulla. Principal District and Sessions Judge Baramulla, Raja Shujat Ali Khan, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, DIG North Kashmir, besides senior officers from judiciary and civil administration, senior advocates and litigants were also present on the occasion.  As many as 10 thousand cases of various nature were settled amicably during the said Lok Adalat. About Rs. 87 lakh were awarded for 27 MACT cases besides an amount of Rs 60 lakh under bank recovery was also ensured and about Rs 3.4 lakh were also realized as fine under different cases in the district.
National Lok Adalat was also held at the court complexes of Pattan, Sopore, Uri, Boniyar, Dangiwacha and Tangmarg of Baramulla district during which a large number of cases were settled amicably.
At Pulwama, Justice Ali Mohammad Magray, Judge High Court, J&K who is also administrative Judge for district Pulwama inaugurated the National Lok Adalat at EDI Pampore and Town Hall Pulwama. Principal District and Sessions Judge, Abdul Rashid Malik also accompanied besides Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama, DIG South Kashmir. As many as 10160 cases of various nature referred by District Legal Services Authority to National Lok Adalat were amicably settled in the said Lok Adalat. Out of Rs 6 crore awarded during the Lok Adalat, Rs 4 crore were awarded to 200 flood affected families in the district, besides Rs 2 crore for Old Age Pensioners.
At Kulgam, the National Lok Adalat was held at district court complex and was inaugurated by Justice MH Attar. As many as 3354 cases were settled amicably in different Lok Adalats in the district. Principal District and Sessions Judge Kulgam who is also Chairman DLSA informed that Rs 36.55 lakh were awarded among the flood affected families while Rs 11.10 lakh were awarded in different MACT cases besides Rs 1.62 lakh were realized as fine in cases of different nature which were taken up in the Lok Adalats.
At Kupwara, District Legal Services Authority constituted five benches for organizing Lok Adalats in Kupwara, Handwara, Sogam and Karnah. Chairman, Principal District and Sessions Judge Kupwara, Mr Mohammad Ibrahim Wani inaugurated the National Lok Adalat at District Headquarter Kupwara, while three benches were formed to settle the cases amicably. As many as 15360 cases were taken up during the National Lok Adalats, out of which 10441 cases settled amicably and an amount of Rs. 2,04,480 realized as fine besides recovering an amount of Rs 64,39,960 was effected and MACT claim of Rs 22,54,800 were recovered during the National Lok Adalat.
Meanwhile, the Lok Adalats were also held at Sogam and Karnah where the concerned Judges presided over the Lok Adalats besides respective SDMs were present as members during the Lok Adalat.
At Anantnag, National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Chairman District Legal services Authority, Principal District and sessions Judge Anantnag, Mohammad Akram Chodury and Additional District and Sessions Judge Anantnag at ADRC Anantnag. Such Adalats were also held at the court of CJM, Mobile Magistrate, District Court and in Munsiff Court also. The National Lok Adalats were also held in Dooru, Vailoo, Shangus, Aishmuqam and Bijbehara. As many as 2200 cases of different natures were settled in the said Lok Adalats in Anantnag District. Rs 50 lakh compensation was awarded for 18 MACT cases. 16 bank cases were also amicably settled and a fine of Rs 64,200 was also recovered in fisheries and electric challans on spot.
At Budgam, District Legal Services Authority organized the Lok Adalat at court Complex Budgam which was inaugurated and presided by Principal District and Sessions Judge Budgam, Syed Tawqeer Ahmad in which 15000 cases of different nature were taken up for amicable settlement out of which 12000 cases were settled on the occasion. It was also given on the occasion that a relief component of about Rs 8.52 crore was recommended as flood relief in favour of the affected families. Similar Lok Adalats were also conducted at Tehsil level where concerned Chief Judicial Magistrates, Sub Judges Special Munsiffs presided over the Lok Adalats.
At Shopian, National Lok Adalat was held at District Court Complex under the chairmanship of Mohammad Ali Khan, Chariman DLSA. As many as 271 cases were settled amicably and an amount of Rs 36.95 lakh was awarded and a fine of Rs 1 lakh realized besides an amount of Rs 80 lakh was recovered under Bank recovery cases. Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian, Mohammad Ashraf Khan, Munsiff Judge, Sajad-ur-Rehman besides Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Bashir Ahmad Bhat were present on the occasion.
At Ganderbal, District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal held a National Lok Adalat in the District Court Complex, Ganderbal. The Lok Adalat was chaired by Aijaz Ahmad Mir, Principal District and Sessions Judge Ganderbal. More than 1000 cases pertaining to different natures were taken up for amicable settlement during the Lok Adalat.
At Leh, National Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Principal, District and Sessions Judge Kishore Kumar. A total of 650 cases were settled, recovered Rs 50,000 (bank recovery) and realized Rs 17.48 lakh fine from defaulters.
At Katra, National Lok Adalat was held in the court complex Karta under the directions and guidance of Chairman State Legal Services Authority and Chairman District Legal Services Authority, District Judge Reasi. A total of 288 cases were disposed off and an amount of Rs 79,320 was realized on the spot.
